Choose a licensed importer and channel

Pet accessories normally enter through a licensed importer or distributor. The right partner should understand product registration, customs clearance and the retail accounts you want to reach. Some distributors focus on specialist pet retail, while others serve hypermarkets, grooming salons, veterinary clinics or online marketplaces.

Ask how the partner handles stock, promotion and after-sales support. A strong importer can open doors, but the supplier still needs to provide product information, images and reliable lead times. Clarify whether the relationship is exclusive, how territory is defined and what happens if the partner does not perform.

Prepare documentation and Arabic-ready artwork

Product registration and labelling requirements depend on the category and the authority involved. The importer should confirm the current process before production. Arabic labelling or an Arabic information panel is often requested by retailers and may be required for certain products, so leave space in the artwork rather than adding stickers later.

Keep commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin and product documentation consistent. The product name, model or reference, quantities and country of origin should match across documents. A small mismatch can delay clearance and add cost.

Design for heat, humidity and dust

Packaging and materials may face high temperatures, humidity and dust during storage and transport. Adhesives can lift, cartons can soften and some coatings can degrade. Test the pack in conditions that reflect the destination rather than assuming a temperate supply chain.

Consider how the product will be stored in a retail backroom or an outdoor market. Sealed packaging, clear desiccant use where appropriate and robust outer cartons can reduce damage. Avoid packaging that looks premium but cannot survive the journey.

Build a regional commercial plan

The UAE can be both a consumer market and a re-export base. If the importer plans to supply other GCC markets, confirm the documentation and labelling needed for those destinations. A pack designed only for Dubai may not be suitable for Saudi Arabia or Qatar.

Set realistic minimum order quantities, payment terms and lead times. Freight capacity and port schedules can change, so keep a buffer for seasonal peaks. A clear launch plan with a small number of focused products is easier to support than a broad range with uncertain replenishment.
